Unitree Robotics was founded in 2016 by Wang Xingxing in Hangzhou, China. What began as a master's thesis on an affordable legged robot has become the world's best-selling provider of quadruped robots in just a few years. The company employs around 500 staff and supplies its robots to numerous countries, primarily to universities, research laboratories, and developers.
The focus is on quadruped robots such as the consumer model Go2 and the industrial quadruped B2, as well as the humanoid models H1 and G1 since 2023. A significant portion of value creation remains in-house, as Unitree develops motors, actuators, and control software itself. This vertical integration is precisely what explains the low prices and the rapid pace at which new models are released.
Unitree has made legged robots affordable for a broad audience for the first time and is now regarded as the benchmark for price and mobility. With the G1 in 2024, the entry barrier for humanoid robots was also significantly lowered. The company is among the most visible representatives of the rapidly growing Chinese robotics industry.
