1X Technologies was founded in 2014 in Moss, Norway, as Halodi Robotics and renamed in 2022. Since then, the company has expanded its operational focus to Palo Alto and Hayward in California, while maintaining its Nordic roots. It is best known for a funding round in March 2023 in which the OpenAI Startup Fund was a major participant.
The core product is the bipedal household robot NEO Gamma, which was presented in revised form in 2025. At around 165 cm in body height, approximately 30 kg in weight, and around 75 degrees of freedom, NEO targets the home sector. The hands each offer 22 degrees of freedom and were developed with everyday dexterity in mind. This was preceded by EVE, a wheeled upper-body robot for logistics and security, which is no longer the focus.
1X Technologies is among the few Western startups seriously pursuing household humanoids and has attracted renowned investors such as OpenAI, EQT Ventures, and Samsung NEXT. Series production of up to 10,000 units annually has been announced; a contract with EQT for deployment in portfolio companies demonstrates the move toward commercial use.
