Overview
NEO is the humanoid household robot from Norwegian-American company 1X Technologies. Pre-orders have been available since 2025, with first deliveries to the US and Canada planned for late 2026. International rollout is expected to follow from 2027 onwards.
Design
NEO is deliberately lightweight at around 30 kilograms and approximately 168 centimeters tall. Instead of rigid motors in the joints, 1X uses a tendon-based drive system with numerous so-called myofiber actuators that mimics human musculature and makes the robot very quiet. It is available in several color options with fabric covering.
Technology and AI
Control runs on the proprietary NEO Cortex platform, which is based on Nvidia hardware and includes an integrated language model for natural conversation. Navigation is purely camera-based via stereo cameras. In the initial phase, demanding tasks are partially supported through teleoperation by humans.
Market Significance
With a purchase price of 20,000 US dollars or a subscription model starting at 499 dollars per month, 1X is targeting private households directly. With this approach, the company is attempting to bring humanoid robots into the everyday lives of ordinary consumers early on.
