Universal Robots was founded in 2005 by Esben Østergaard, Kasper Støy and Kristian Kassow in Odense. In December 2008, the world's first commercially successful cobot was delivered to Linatex in Denmark. Since 2015, Universal Robots has been part of US-based test and measurement company Teradyne, which acquired the company for 285 million US dollars.
The product range extends from the tabletop cobot UR3 to the versatile UR5 and UR10, up to the UR20 with 20 kilograms payload capacity, which was launched in 2022. All models are designed for simple programming and safe human-robot collaboration without protective fencing. Over 100,000 Universal Robots cobots are installed worldwide.
Universal Robots is regarded as the founder of the cobot market and is globally leading in this segment. The company has significantly simplified entry into collaborative robotics for small and medium-sized enterprises. In Switzerland, Universal Robots is broadly represented through several certified system integrators and distributors.
