Robotera is a spin-off of Tsinghua University founded in 2023 and based in Beijing. The founder is Tsinghua professor Chen Jianyu, who aims to develop general-purpose intelligent robots with tightly integrated brain and body. In a short time, the company has unveiled several humanoid platforms.
Following the first whole-body humanoid Star1, the L7 was unveiled in 2025—a 171 centimeter tall robot with 55 degrees of freedom, dexterous hands, and speeds of up to four meters per second. The robots are controlled by Robotera's proprietary Vision-Language-Action model ERA-42, which coordinates locomotion and manipulation. For materials, Robotera relies on aerospace-grade aluminum and carbon fiber composites.
According to its own statements, Robotera has already delivered over 200 units, with several of the world's largest technology companies among its customers. The combination of speed, load capacity, and dexterity makes the robots attractive for logistics, industry, and research. As a young but well-capitalized spin-off, Robotera is among the closely watched Chinese humanoid developers.
