Overview

The L7 is a humanoid robot developed by Beijing-based Robotera, a 2023 spinoff from Tsinghua University. Founded by Tsinghua professor Chen Jianyu, the company aims to develop versatile intelligent robots with tightly integrated "brain" and "body." The L7 was unveiled in July 2025 as the second walking full-body humanoid after the Star1.

Design

The L7 stands 171 centimeters tall and weighs 65 kilograms. Its skeleton offers 55 degrees of freedom, including twelve per hand, and is constructed from aerospace-grade aluminum alloys and carbon-fiber composite materials. The joint motors deliver peak torque of 400 newton-meters. This enables the robot to reach speeds of up to four meters per second and carry loads up to 20 kilograms, while its dexterous hands can handle fine tasks such as folding clothes.

Technology and AI

The L7 is controlled by Robotera's proprietary ERA-42 model, a vision-language-action approach that coordinates locomotion and manipulation. A wrist with ten axes significantly extends its range of motion. Robotera thereby combines high mobility with the ability to plan and execute tasks largely autonomously.

Market Significance

According to the company, Robotera has already delivered over 200 units, with several of the world's largest technology companies among its customers. The L7 combines speed, load capacity, and dexterity in a human-sized form and targets logistics, industry, and research. As a young yet well-capitalized spinoff, Robotera is regarded as one of China's ambitious humanoid developers.
