About the Company

Overview

Rainbow Robotics was founded in 2011 as a spin-off from the HUBO Lab at the KAIST research institute in Daejeon. The company is listed on the KOSDAQ technology exchange. In early 2025, Samsung Electronics increased its stake to around 35 percent and has since consolidated Rainbow Robotics as a subsidiary.

Technology and Products

Following the humanoid HUBO came collaborative robotic arms from the RB series and the dual-arm mobile manipulator RB-Y1, Korea's first of its kind. The RB-Y1 combines two seven-joint arms with a six-axis torso on a fast wheeled base and is designed as an open platform for AI research, including development kit and open documentation.

Market Significance

As a Samsung subsidiary with a stock listing, Rainbow Robotics is among South Korea's most visible robotics companies. Since its market launch in 2024, the RB-Y1 has established itself as a widespread research platform for dual-arm mobile manipulation.
