GAC Group, short for Guangzhou Automobile Group, is one of China's major automakers headquartered in Guangzhou. The company is listed on the Hong Kong and Shanghai stock exchanges and manufactures both its own brands and vehicles through joint ventures with international manufacturers. GAC has been developing humanoid robots in addition to its automotive business for several years.
The GoMate robot represents the third generation of in-house development. Its reconfigurable wheeled-legged design switches between four and two wheels, features 38 degrees of freedom, and uses a proprietary solid-state battery enabling up to six hours of operation. For navigation, GAC leverages its own camera-based technology from autonomous driving.
GAC joins a growing number of automakers transferring their strengths in batteries, sensors, and software to robotics. GoMate is scheduled to enter limited production starting in 2026, initially in GAC's own manufacturing facilities and later expanding to other industries.
