Overview

GoMate is the robot of Chinese automotive group GAC Group from Guangzhou. Unveiled in late 2024 as the third generation of the company's own robot development, the machine is scheduled to begin limited production in 2026 and later scale up to higher volumes. GAC plans initial deployments in its own facilities as well as in security, healthcare, and vehicle service applications.

Design

What makes GoMate special is its variable wheel-leg configuration. In four-wheel mode, the robot measures approximately 1.40 meters, stands very stable, and overcomes obstacles, ramps, and even stairs. In two-wheel mode, it rises up to 1.75 meters, becomes more agile, and requires less space. Overall, a self-developed full-body controller manages 38 degrees of freedom. A proprietary solid-state battery enables up to six hours of operation and reduces energy consumption by over 80 percent compared to comparable systems, according to GAC.

Technology and AI

For navigation, GoMate uses a camera-based driving algorithm that GAC knows from its own autonomous driving. A SLAM procedure combines movement across surfaces with grasping in space, while AI models in the cloud respond to voice commands. The perception system detects obstacles up to 30 meters away.

Market Significance

GAC is among China's major publicly traded automakers and joins a group of vehicle manufacturers transferring their expertise in batteries, sensors, and autonomous driving to humanoid robots. The wheel-leg approach is a pragmatic alternative to pure bipeds and initially targets clearly defined tasks in industry and security.
