Overview

The D1 is the first in-house developed humanoid from Tokyo-based ZEALS, which distributes it under the Omakase Robotics brand. It was unveiled on August 5, 2026 at a press conference in Tokyo, and sales have been ongoing since then. The target market is clearly defined: hospitals, nursing homes, factories, warehouses, and hotels—those Japanese businesses that have faced staff shortages for years. For the current fiscal year, ZEALS aims for 100 built units and 10,000 cumulative operating hours in real-world deployment.

Construction

What stands out is what the D1 does without. Instead of two legs, it moves on a chassis with six wheels, two of which are powered and four are trailing, and it turns in place. The chassis measures approximately 55.5 by 48 centimeters, allowing the robot to pass through standard door frames, into elevators, and through narrow hospital corridors without the need for building modifications. The height ranges from 129 to 159 centimeters, as the upper body can be raised 300 millimeters via a lifting column. The empty weight is 110 kilograms. Both arms have seven axes with full torque control, plus brakes at each joint, and each can carry five kilograms.

Technology and AI

A NVIDIA Jetson module serves as the computing core, with Ubuntu 22.04 as the operating system. For perception, the unit is equipped with two Lidar sensors in the chassis, two depth cameras at head and base, two fisheye cameras front and rear, and one wide-angle camera at each wrist, supplemented by three ultrasonic sensors and a directional microphone array. Navigation achieves positioning accuracy of about five centimeters at speeds of up to 1.2 meters per second. A 48-volt, 56-amp-hour battery provides approximately eight hours of operation, with a recharge to 80 percent taking four to five hours and occurring either manually or automatically at the charging station. Two software layers from the manufacturer sit above this: Omakase OS for navigation and interaction, and Omakase Zen, a manipulation model that learns from field data.

Market Significance

ZEALS does not come from robotics but from conversational AI and serves over 400 corporate customers in chat commerce according to its own statements. The robotics division Omakase Robotics was only established in November 2025. Remarkable is the proof in practice: at the end of August 2026, the company reported the first hospital deployment of the D1, in which five tasks were tested over 35 hours. The entry price of five million yen is significantly below what comparable dual-arm platforms cost, plus there is a monthly fee for operating system and support. Dual-arm work steps are planned for later; initially the focus is on reception, guidance, patrol, and transport.
