Fauna Robotics was founded in 2024 by former Meta and Google engineers in New York. The company developed the humanoid robot Sprout, designed for social environments such as households and educational institutions. In March 2026, Amazon acquired the company entirely; the team of approximately 50 employees joined Amazon's Personal Robotics Group.
Sprout is 1.07 meters tall, weighs 22.7 kilograms, and features 29 degrees of freedom. The robot can dance, grasp objects, and independently stand up from a chair. Along with the robot, Fauna offers a software developer platform that enables research laboratories to test new robotic applications in home environments. The selling price was 50,000 USD.
Early customers included Disney, New York University, and University of California San Diego. For Amazon, the acquisition primarily provided access to platform technology for humanoid home robots. Fauna Robotics is considered a pioneer in the social humanoid segment, which focuses on interaction rather than heavy-duty work.
