About the Company

Overview

Andromeda Robotics was founded in 2022 by Grace Brown and Yan Chen in Melbourne. The start-up develops humanoid companion robots specifically designed for the healthcare sector. Following a seed round of 3 million Australian dollars in 2024 and Series A financing totalling 23 million US dollars, the company has significantly accelerated its growth pace.

Technology and Products

The social companion robot Abi is 120 centimetres tall, weighs 25 kilograms and features 15 degrees of freedom. It moves at speeds of up to 1 metre per second and runs for 8 hours on a full charge. Abi recognises faces, analyses emotions via camera and microphone array, and supports over 90 languages. The Andromeda OS operating system also evaluates non-verbal signals and the mood of conversation partners.

Market Significance

Andromeda positions Abi as a solution to the global staffing shortage in elderly care. The robot has been trialled in more than 15 care homes in the Melbourne region. In 2025, the company also entered the US market. With the goal of producing 100 units monthly, Andromeda ranks among the fastest-growing care robot start-ups outside Asia.
