Schunk was founded in 1945 by Friedrich Schunk in Lauffen am Neckar and remains family-owned to this day. The group employs over 3,500 employees across 9 production facilities and 34 subsidiary companies worldwide. Schunk is recognized as the global market leader in both gripping systems and clamping technology for automation.
In clamping technology, the standard product range comprises over 11,000 components, including the hydro-expansion clamping technology TENDO and the TRIBOS polygonal clamping technology. The gripper program includes over 4,000 components with more than 2,550 standard grippers of various designs. Since 2024, the offering also includes AI-powered grasping solutions, for which Schunk received the Hermes Award.
Schunk is ubiquitous in industrial robotics: the company's grippers and clamping systems are used across virtually all industries. Its market leadership in two core categories makes Schunk one of the few component suppliers that directly serves both robot manufacturers and end users. The family business structure ensures long-term investment perspectives.
