PNDbotics is a full-stack robotics company based in Beijing that develops drives, mechanics, and software for its humanoid robots completely in-house. The company gained recognition in August 2023 when its humanoid Adam walked among visitors at a Chinese music festival, standing out with unusually natural movements.
The Adam series comprises four variants ranging from Lite to Pro, all 1.67 meters tall with 25 to 43 degrees of freedom. At its core are quasi-direct-drive PSA actuators delivering up to 340 Nm, which enable soft contacts thanks to high back-drivability. Balance stems from whole-body control and model predictive control, combined with reinforcement and imitation learning. Additionally, there is the Adam-U upper-body robot for teleoperation, plus actuators as standalone products, with an open SDK featuring ROS2 and DDS interfaces.
Adam has primarily established itself in research laboratories and is regarded as one of the humanoids with the most natural movement patterns in its class. By selling proprietary actuators, PNDbotics also serves the growing component market in the industry.
