isento GmbH is a Nuremberg-based company that launched the open-source robotics project pib (printable intelligent bot) in 2022. All construction files are published freely accessible; those who don't print the robot themselves can obtain kits from its own shop. Today the community counts around 1,800 members, and more than 120 schools use pib in their teaching.
The current pib v4 is an upper-body humanoid approximately 80 cm tall with around 20 degrees of freedom and consists predominantly of PLA or ABS printed parts as well as commercially available servo motors. The TRYB AI platform enables voice control and environmental perception via microphone array. The operating system is based on ROS2 and Linux.
pib is one of Europe's most renowned open-hardware initiatives in the field of humanoid robotics. The approach of making a robot fully reproducible and accessible has earned isento the German Design Award 2025 as well as the German Innovation Award 2025. As an educational robot for schools and makerspaces, pib fills a gap between expensive research platforms and simple toy robots.
