Sharpa was founded in 2024 in Singapore by Li Yifan, Xiang Shaoqing and Sun Kai, who previously built up Nasdaq-listed lidar manufacturer Hesai. The company initially did not position itself as a robot builder, but as a supplier for the most difficult part of a robot: the hand. According to its own statements, Sharpa has raised 668 million US dollars at a valuation of 3.3 billion, with funding from Alibaba, Tencent, JD.com and Meituan among others.
The centerpiece is the SharpaWave hand with 22 degrees of freedom, whose fingertips feature a dynamic tactile matrix with more than a thousand measurement points per tip. Everything else builds on this. The SharpaNorth platform combines two of these hands on a dual-arm wheeled robot with 63 degrees of freedom. On September 28, 2026, the D01 was added at IROS in Pittsburgh, a dual-arm system with 66 degrees of freedom, electronic skin across the entire body, a vertical column for working heights between 1109 and 1624 millimeters, and an NVIDIA Jetson Thor as the computing unit. The ecosystem also includes the W02 hand, the AE01 data glove for teleoperation, and the MoDE-VLA manipulation model.
Most humanoids fail not at walking, but at grasping, especially where extensive contact is involved. Inserting, assembling, grinding and mounting require feedback from the hand that optical sensing cannot provide. Sharpa fills exactly this gap and sells it first as a component, then as a finished system. With its funding, the company ranks among the best-equipped young robotics companies despite its relatively short history. Sharpa does not publish prices for any of the three products; everything is handled via request.
