Description

Overview

GENISOM AI unveiled the L1 Maker on October 1, 2026 at IROS in Pittsburgh. The Beijing-based company was founded in December 2023 and has shipped over 10,000 robots according to its own statements, with its website claiming more than 15,000 units produced. The L1 Maker is not a new platform, but a new way to sell a proven one: as a self-assembly kit based on the production L1 platform.

Construction

The robot is a compact quadruped with twelve degrees of freedom, meaning three joints per leg. In continuous operation, it carries eight kilograms, climbs slopes up to 40 degrees, and handles steps of 16 centimeters consecutively. Crucially, the machine does not arrive fully assembled. The customer assembles it at the component level, integrates the systems, and calibrates it to production standards. This allows manufacturers and dealers to offer the same robot both as an educational tool and as a working device.

Technology and AI

The L1 series is designed for research and education and can be equipped with an NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX, a Livox Mid-360 Lidar, RealSense depth cameras, GNSS, and mobile connectivity. This allows mapping, three-dimensional reconstruction, and autonomous navigation to be not only simulated but tested on actual hardware. GENISOM AI provides the RoamerX navigation software and the open-source MATRiX simulation environment, which combines MuJoCo physics with Unreal Engine 5. The company manufactures the joint actuators in-house.

Market Significance

Educational robots have so far been either toys or heavily simplified research models. The L1 Maker takes a different approach by having students and developers work on a machine that can subsequently be deployed in the field. This is attractive for universities because the jump from educational tool to product is eliminated. At the same time, GENISOM AI secures early access to people who will later make procurement decisions. The company has not yet published a price.
