Overview
Flourish 1 is the first robot from startup Flourish, which emerged from obscurity in late September 2026 and splits its headquarters between San Francisco and Paris. The company was founded in January 2026 by Antoine Marcel. The target audience is unusually clearly defined: families with limited time. The robot is designed to tidy up the household, fetch items, and take on simple tasks. The first series is limited to fifty numbered units, with delivery scheduled for December 2026.
Construction
Flourish deliberately forgoes legs. The robot rolls on a flat base with six wheels, making it tip-proof but excluding stairs. Mounted on top is a slim, height-adjustable upper body with two arms. Each arm ends in a simple two-finger gripper and carries its own camera at the wrist. A small Lidar near the ground detects obstacles. At around 110 centimeters in height and approximately 20 kilograms in weight, the machine deliberately remains small and light, with a reach ranging from the floor to just under 90 centimeters.
Technology and AI
Inside is no high-performance computer, but a Raspberry Pi. The actual computation takes place in the cloud, where training and inference run. The robot doesn't learn new tasks from a library, but through demonstration: the owner guides the arms via a smartphone app, using the phone's motion sensors as an input device. According to the manufacturer, the success rate for learned tasks is approximately 80 percent. An SDK is available, and Flourish specifies battery life at up to twelve hours of arm operation.
Market Significance
Price is the real argument. Funding came from a pre-seed round by Families Fund, with the company not disclosing the amount. Whether the equation works out will depend on reliability, as an 80 percent success rate means one failed attempt in every five in everyday use. As a signal, however, the price is remarkable: it shows that cheap computers plus cloud can be an alternative to expensive onboard processors.
