Overview

The Vision 60 from Ghost Robotics, based in Philadelphia, is the most widely deployed quadruped in government and military environments. It is used by the US Air Force, the US Department of Homeland Security, AT&T, Ohio's Department of Transportation, and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, among others. Since 2024, South Korean defense contractor LIG Nex1 has held the majority stake.

Construction

The robot measures 95 centimeters in length and stands 68.5 centimeters high, with an empty weight of 51 kilograms. Twelve motors, three per leg, power it, and the drivetrain is reversible. It is built from aluminum and composite materials, deliberately modular: legs, battery, and front and rear sensor heads can be swapped in minutes. For attachments, T-slots, M5 threads, and Picatinny rails per MIL-STD-1913 are available; body panels are optional. The feet feature Vibram all-terrain treads, optionally designed for sand or ice.

Technology and AI

The computing core is an NVIDIA Xavier with 32 gigabytes of RAM and two terabytes of SSD storage. Sensors include five full-HD cameras, four depth sensors, and RTK-GPS with two antennas; lidar, low-light camera, manipulator arm, or a CBRN module can be added as options. The robot is IP67-rated and operates from minus 40 to plus 55 degrees, though cold starts below minus 20 degrees are not possible. A notable mechanical feature is that it continues to function even when lying on its back.

Market Significance

Ghost Robotics does not publish an official price; third parties cite approximately 150,000 US dollars depending on configuration. From an export control standpoint, the device is classified as EAR-99 and is not subject to ITAR restrictions. The Vision 60 represents a different approach than Spot: more rugged, more open, field-repairable, but less suited to clean industrial environments.
