Overview

The Astribot S1 is a humanoid robot by Chinese company Stardust Intelligence, operating under the Astribot brand. The S1 is designed for particularly fast and precise manipulation and targets research, laboratory, and service environments.

Design

The S1 is approximately 170 to 173 centimeters tall and weighs about 80 kilograms. It features two arms with seven degrees of freedom each, which achieve very high speeds at the end effector and are said to offer repeatability accuracy in the range of one tenth of a millimeter. The payload capacity is specified at 5 kilograms per arm at full horizontal reach. A technically distinctive feature is the cable-driven actuation system, inspired by human musculature, which is designed to enable precise and quiet operation.

Technology and AI

Perception is provided by 3D LiDAR, depth cameras, IMU sensors, and pressure sensors in hands and feet. The central innovation is a whole-body learning system based on imitation learning: the robot learns new tasks by observing and mimicking human demonstrations, then executing them autonomously. Additionally, it includes speech recognition and natural language processing for interaction.

Market Significance

The S1 is regarded as one of the fastest autonomous humanoids and positions itself through the interplay of high speed, precision, and learning capability. With this, Astribot aims particularly at demanding manipulation tasks.
