Overview

The MagicDog from Chinese manufacturer MagicLab launched in 2025 and is designed as a companion and educational robot. According to MagicLab, the company has delivered over ten thousand quadruped robots and was awarded a Red Dot Award in 2025. It is available in PRO and EDU versions.

Design

Standing, the robot measures 67 by 35 by 56 centimeters, lying down 72 by 44 by 29, and weighs approximately seventeen kilograms with battery. The special feature lies in the degree-of-freedom count: twelve in the legs and one in the neck. The MagicDog thus has a genuinely movable head, which sets it apart from most competitors whose sensors are fixed to the body. Maximum joint torque is approximately 37.5 Newton-meters, with a payload of around five kilograms, maximum ten.

Technology and AI

A 4K camera sits in the head, surrounded by a ring-shaped microphone array. Additionally, there are a lidar, stereo camera, depth camera, fisheye camera, ultrasound, and touch sensors on the body, with which the robot responds to petting. Processing is handled by an eight-core CPU. Over thirty motion routines are pre-programmed. The battery with 8200 milliamp-hours at 29.6 volts provides approximately two and a half hours of continuous operation, running up to three meters per second on inclines up to forty degrees.

Market Significance

MagicLab does not state a price; distribution is handled by inquiry. The focus is interesting: while most Chinese providers target inspection and industry, MagicLab attempts to place interaction at the center. The movable head with camera and microphone ring provides the technical foundation for this.
