Overview

The KAPEX is a humanoid robot developed by LG Electronics in collaboration with LG AI Research and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), and introduced in November 2025. The name is intended to express both the achievement of a pinnacle in robot development and the exploration of unknown possibilities.

Design

KAPEX combines bipedal locomotion with tactile, dexterous hands and precision gearing. The robot features approximately 40 to 50 degrees of freedom, with roughly 20 of these allocated to the dexterous hands.

Technology and AI

For the robot's brain, KAPEX utilizes technology based on the vision-language model EXAONE from LG AI Research. This enables the robot not only to imitate human movements, but also to learn independently, adapt to changing environments, perform precise manipulation, and collaborate naturally with humans.

Market Significance

LG and KIST have deliberately designed KAPEX for practical work and not merely for laboratory research. Field tests in factories, logistics centers, and public environments are planned to begin in 2026, with full commercialization targeted within approximately four years. The KAPEX is regarded as an ambitious Korean contribution in the international race for humanoid robots.
