Overview

The Forerunner K2 is a humanoid robot by Chinese company Kepler and represents its fifth generation of robots. It is designed for industrial applications and was demonstrated at the 2025 World Conference for Artificial Intelligence in Shanghai, among other venues. There, it completed a multi-hour continuous operation.

Construction

The robot is approximately 178 centimeters tall and weighs about 85 kilograms. It has 52 active degrees of freedom and features proprietary tactile hands with eleven degrees of freedom per hand. Via both arms, it can move loads of up to 30 kilograms.

Technology and AI

A battery with approximately 2.33 kilowatt-hours should enable eight hours of operation after about one hour of charging. The hands are equipped with force sensors at the wrists and fingers, which supports delicate grasping.

Market Significance

Kepler positions the K2 for industrial deployment and uses public demonstrations to showcase practical applicability. The robot thus stands for China's push into humanoid robots for manufacturing.
