Description

Overview

AEON is the first humanoid robot from Swedish technology corporation Hexagon, developed by its Robotics division. It was unveiled on June 17, 2025 at the company's HxGN LIVE event in Las Vegas. The 165-centimeter-tall and 60-kilogram robot is purpose-built for factories and warehouses, designed to fill the gaps created by labor shortages.

Design

Instead of feet, the legs end in wheels. On flat warehouse floors, AEON rolls at up to 2.4 meters per second; it uses its legs to overcome obstacles and stairs. The humanoid upper body features 34 degrees of freedom and interchangeable end effectors: five-fingered hands, parallel grippers, or scanning attachments, depending on the task. The robot can continuously carry eight kilograms, or up to fifteen kilograms for short periods.

Technology and AI

More than 22 integrated sensors, including industrial LiDAR and inspection cameras, feed the spatial AI. A NVIDIA Jetson Orin processor runs in the torso; development and training use NVIDIA's Isaac platform, with cloud connectivity via Microsoft Azure. The actuators are supplied by Swiss motor manufacturer maxon from Sachseln.

Market Significance

AEON ranks among the most serious European responses to American and Chinese humanoid competition. Supplier Schaeffler is testing an entire fleet, and BMW brought the robot into production in early 2026. Behind it stands Hexagon, a metrology and digital solutions corporation listed on Nasdaq Stockholm with over 20,000 employees worldwide.
