Sophia is the most well-known humanoid robot from Hanson Robotics in Hong Kong and became famous primarily for her human-like facial expressions and public appearances. She is designed as a social and communicative robot, not for physical work. A research version is available through authorized dealers.

Design

Sophia is an upper-body figure approximately 167 centimeters tall and comparatively lightweight. Her trademark is the patented artificial skin called Frubber, which enables numerous facial expressions. Her face alone can display a wide range of expressions.

Internally, cameras in her eyes and microphones support conversations and voice localization. Control runs on a powerful computing platform under Linux.
