Description

Overview

The GR-2 is a humanoid robot developed by Shanghai-based Fourier, previously operating under the name Fourier Intelligence. Unveiled in September 2024, it is the successor to the GR-1 and well-documented.

Design

The robot measures 175 centimeters and weighs approximately 63 kilograms. It features 53 degrees of freedom, with hands offering twelve degrees of freedom each, providing double the dexterity compared to its predecessor. The load capacity per arm is three kilograms.

Technology and AI

The GR-2 is powered by seven proprietary actuators from the FSA 2.0 series with peak torques exceeding 380 newton-meters. A dual-encoder system increases precision, and each finger is equipped with six tactile sensors that detect force as well as the shape and material of objects. The removable battery has double the capacity of the previous generation and allows for approximately two hours of runtime. The software platform supports NVIDIA Isaac Lab and MuJoCo.

Market Significance

The GR-2 is offered starting at approximately USD 150,000 and is deployed in research, industry, and service sectors. A key focus area is supporting elderly and mobility-impaired individuals, such as in patient transfer and guided therapy exercises. It is used at ETH Zurich and Carnegie Mellon University, among other institutions.
