Overview

Atlas is the humanoid robot from Boston Dynamics, which has existed in a fully electric variant since 2024, replacing the earlier hydraulic version. The production model was unveiled at CES in January 2026, with production starting immediately afterwards. The units available for 2026 have already been allocated to Hyundai and Google DeepMind.

Construction

According to the data sheet, the robot is 1.9 meters tall and weighs 90 kilograms. It features 56 degrees of freedom and fully rotating joints at the hips, waist and neck, enabling movements that would be impossible for the human body. In the short term, Atlas can lift up to 50 kilograms. With an empty battery, it autonomously navigates to a charging station and swaps the battery independently.

Technology and AI

Atlas uses current AI methods and is equipped with physical intelligence as standard according to the manufacturer, which can adapt to a specific application in less than a day. When an Atlas learns a new task, it can be transferred to the entire fleet.

Market Significance

Boston Dynamics is one of the best-known names in the industry and positions Atlas clearly for industrial applications such as material flow, machine operation and order picking. The close ties to parent company Hyundai ensure the robot has concrete fields of application from the outset.
