Overview

The MagicBot Z1 is the compact humanoid from Chinese manufacturer MagicLab (Magiclab Robotics Technology) based in Wuxi and was unveiled in July 2025. At 136.9 centimeters tall and approximately 40 kilograms, it targets research, education, exhibitions, and stage performances. For transport, it folds down to 73 centimeters.

Construction

The standard version comes with 24 joints; the developer version can be expanded to up to 50 degrees of freedom, including an optional tactile five-finger hand with eleven joints. Individual joints achieve up to 320 degrees of range of motion, the knee delivers 100 Nm, in the developer version 130 Nm. MagicLab emphasizes robustness: tens of thousands of fall tests are part of the program, and the robot can get up on its own.

Technology and AI

A 3D LiDAR, a depth camera, two fisheye cameras, and a tactile sensor on the head provide 360-degree perception. A multimodal language model controls interaction, navigation follows VLN algorithms. Walking was trained via imitation and reinforcement learning, according to the manufacturer in just 24 hours. SDK and frameworks are open source.

Market Significance

MagicLab positions the Z1 as a robust and comparatively accessible entry point into humanoid development; the company quotes the price upon request. In addition to humanoids, the company manufactures robot dogs and proprietary joint modules, underscoring manufacturing depth in the competitive Chinese market.
