Overview

The KAI is a full-size humanoid robot from Kinetix AI, based in Shenzhen. It stands out for its exceptionally high mobility and its own world model, designed for use in residential and office environments.

Construction

The KAI measures approximately 173 centimeters, weighs about 70 kilograms, and features 115 degrees of freedom, with 72 of those in the hands alone. Each of its dexterous hands provides 36 degrees of freedom. The robot achieves a top speed of approximately five kilometers per hour and operates for around four hours per charge. Its surface is covered with artificial tactile skin containing 18,000 sensing points that can detect forces as low as 0.1 Newton. A 1.7 kilowatt-hour solid-state battery powers the robot, designed to enhance safety.

Technology and AI

The KAI runs on the proprietary KAI World Model, which processes large volumes of egocentric data and interprets tasks from a human perspective. This enables the robot not only to follow rigid commands but also to adapt to new situations. For training purposes, the company developed a wearable device called KAI Halo, which allows human operators to generate training data from a first-person perspective during everyday activities.

Market Significance

The KAI is targeted at applications in retail, reception and concierge services, and household tasks, rather than heavy industry. Kinetix AI anticipates a price below USD 40,000 and plans to begin series production in late 2026.
